Located at 515 Painter Road, Tyler Arboretum is one of the oldest Arboretums in the United States; provides 650 acres of trails and flowering gardens. Many activities during the year like flower seed sales and Pumpkin Days provide family activities for all ages. Many of the original trees and buildings still exist on the property open to the public.
The 220-acre campus, located in Middletown Township, Delaware County, PA, was purchased in 1889. Frank Furness, one of the most prominent architects of the day, was employed to design the buildings. The School opened in 1891 and it offered three-year programs in bricklaying, carpentry, machine shop, and pattern-making. With the first graduation in 1894, the School became a significant pioneer in America’s vocational education movement. Williamson’s rich history continues through its involvement as a positive role model for its students and its alumni.
Celebrating 50 years of education in the Rose Tree Media School District, Penncrest continues to rate high in scholastic abilities, its sports programs and promoting community awareness. Many alumni of Penncrest include,; Captain John Laufer of the Pennsylvania State Police (a former Chief Engineer of Lima), Former US Representative The Honorable Curt Weldon, Former County Councilman Andy Reilly and NBC10 Correspondent Jamison Uhler.
Celebrating in 2008, 40 years of Penn State University education, one of the top 10 rated universities in the country, Brandywine Campus is located at 25 Yearsley Mills Road in Middletown Township. The campus draws most of its students from Delaware and Chester counties, parts of Montgomery County, and the City of Philadelphia- an area that includes every type of neighborhood represented in the Eastern United States. The Library/Learning Center, the John D. Vairo Library, honoring the campus’s first director/CEO. Dr. Vairo, a friend of the former Lima Fire Company, is a long time resident of Middletown Township and has served his community in various ways; most recent as a member of the Township Fire Apparatus Replacement Committee.
